Extracting the honey
|
Once the cells have had their wax caps removed, the honey is available to harvest.
If you had all the time in the world and then some, you could just let it drip out into something, but most beekeepers use a centrefuge of some sort. This spins the frames and the honey is forced out. Sometimes when the timing is right, we can take our harves to my cousin's amazing Bee House and use his spinner - it's run on electricity and is absolutely super. |

This is something we've appreciated more during Covid and some other times when the timing wasn't perfect - and we had to use a manual spinner - it's MUCH harder work!
Regardless of which method you use, the honey flows out the bottom through a small tap.
It still has small bits of wax in from the caps, so it's filtered through a sieve or muslin or fine cloth. |

Then that's it - nothing added, nothing taken away - just into the jars!
It is sweet and sticky and delicious!
